Bud

BudBud will always be known for his affectionate nature, very friendly demeanor and athletic prowess. Whenever guests came over, Bud was quick to greet them with his meows and affection.  His talkative personality also strengthened our special bond and he would often follow me from room to room when I was at home.  He was also able to jump over four feet into the air from a standing position and would always come running when called. He led a long (16 years) and happy life.

Buster

BusterBuster was with us for a short time, but his lovable and playful nature left a lasting impression. I got him as stray kitten on the streets of New Jersey and he quickly became a fun-loving, playful cat who had a penchant for playing hide and seek.  He also loved to ride in the window well of the backseat of my car, much to the amazement of those driving by us. Strong, playful and ever friendly, he brought a smile to the faces of all he encountered.

Cleo

CleoCleo could not only smile brightly – but would bring smiles to those around her as well! As with most dogs she could run like the wind, and loved to bolt when taken off her leash in a park – in San Diego as a young puppy and in Virginia in her later years. Gentle, quiet and calm to the world around her, she was a loving part of our family.

Harley & Caesar

Harley & CaesarHarley (Shar Pei) and Caesar, both gentle and good-natured, were known and loved by all of the patrons at their favorite hair salon OMO in Old Town Alexandria. Ever the fun-loving character Harley loved to play tug-of-war with towels!

Jed

JedJed was an unusually large Lab with a kind heart and a penchant for chasing and fetching tennis balls! He was always excited to see visitors, and loved an occasional double cheeseburger from McDonalds from his favorite uncle.   Jed gave a hearty, friendly bark and wagged his tail frequently, always showing his friendly demeanor.

Rugby

RugbyRugby could elicit the heart of anyone with his “soulful whimper” and puppy-dog eyes. As a loved member of our family he traveled with us everywhere. The ultimate lap-dog, Rugby was quick to take a resting position on the lap of anyone who sat down on the living room couch or chair.  And, he also had a definite “soft spot” for ice cream!

Starbucks

StarbucksStarbucks was a loyal and playful cat who was always there for me.  In his older years he loved to sleep under a tree in the front yard.   His trusting nature led to his undoing however.   A neighbor brought home a new dog and rather then keeping it on a leash they installed an invisible fence.  Within 2 weeks the dog spotted Starbucks sleeping under the tree, ran through the fence, caught Starbucks and severely wounded him.  We had to put him down.  Starbucks did not deserve this, and I hope that more pet owners become more attentive, not only to their own pets, but their neighbor’s pets as well.  I miss you Starbucks!               ~ David from Virginia

I’m Still Here

Friend, please don’t mourn for me
I’m still here, though you don’t see.
I’m right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I’m always near.
I’m everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I’ll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I’ll never wander out of your sight-
I’m the brightest star on a summer night.
I’ll never be beyond your reach-
I’m the warm moist sand when you’re at the beach.

I’m the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I’m the beautiful flowers of which you’re so fond,
the clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I’m the first bright blossom you’ll see in the spring,
the first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I’m the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you’ll see that the face in the moon is mine.

When you stare thinking there’s no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I’ll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you’ll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I’m the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I’m the smile you see on a baby’s face.
Just look for me, friend, I’m everyplace!
